Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered numerous other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior political figure commented the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
