Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the team reach locations they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in search of the antagonist.
