One 60-day voyage circling the Australian Coast is being halted following the tragic passing of an older female passenger who was stranded by the ship on a remote island.

The passenger had been hiking on the tropical location with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the group for a pause. The vessel left without her and went back several hours later after the ship staff discovered the passenger was not present.

A large-scale search operation located her body the next day.

Authorities are looking into the tragedy, in coordination with law enforcement and the official investigator.

Head of the voyage organizer said that passengers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and earlier mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he added that passengers would be provided a total repayment, and said the company was working "to arrange the return journeys of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also released an updated announcement, and said they had "provided a directive to the Captain" prohibiting any new passengers from getting on the vessel.

The official said that they would inspect the ship in Cairns upon its arrival.

Sequence of Incidents

The vessel first departed the coastal city on 24 October, and was merely two days into the voyage at the moment of the senior passenger's demise. The remote island was the first stop on the itinerary.

Travelers on the ship - who usually pay substantial amounts of dollars to participate in the voyage - were transported there for a daily excursion with the possibility of trekking or underwater exploration.

Family Statement

The child of the victim said that her family was "surprised and grieved that the liner left Lizard Island after an organised tour without my mother".

Through her comments, she characterized her mum as an "active 80-year-old" who was a member of a bushwalking organization.

"From the little details we have been provided, it looks that there was a breakdown of responsibility and basic judgment," she said.

She added that she wished the examination would be able to pinpoint what "the organization should have done that might have protected Mother's existence".

"Based on information from the police that it was a exceptionally warm day, and she took sick on the mountain ascent," she explained.

"They requested her to return, alone. Then the boat left, reportedly without performing a passenger count.

"During some point in that sequence, or shortly after, mother passed away, alone."

Operator Reaction

Through an announcement, the Head verified that the operator was "collaborating extensively with officials to assist their inquiry".

He mentioned that the organization was "extremely apologetic that this has occurred" and had offered its total backing to the loved ones.

Cruise Industry Practices

The liner serves up to a hundred twenty guests with forty-six crew, according to official data. It was specifically designed to access isolated areas of Australia's coast and is fitted with "tenders" - minor craft used to transport passengers on shore trips.

Events such as this are uncommon, and cruise ships have systems to track which individuals are embarking or getting off, according to travel authorities.

"Leaving covertly or [back] aboard just isn't an possibility," an authority stated.

Cruise lines regard these methods extremely carefully and have "advanced technology in place to avoid such incidents from occurring," the expert continued.

"This appears to be probably a shocking - and sad - single occurrence."
