A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's initial title following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface after spring of 2023.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children together, so to win a title is particularly special," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on court had prompted commentators to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.

He recovered from a break down in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The competitors swapped break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his first professional championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early break points in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
