How can you boost a stellar veteran squad who have claimed back-to-back titles, including a double triumph boasting 30 victories from thirty-two matches?

One Manchester team fields an amateur veterans squad with nine ex- top-flight footballers in their active roster.

222 Top Division Scores, 325 Global Caps

Wythenshawe Vets Over 35s are based in south Manchester and play in the Cheshire Veterans Division Top Division.

The roster this season includes nine former Premier League players, with a combined over 1,800 top-flight games.

The star-studded team also contains 222 Premier League scores and 325 international appearances.

The squad include Papiss Cisse, who scored 37 goals in 117 appearances for his former club after moving to them for £9m from German league side Freiburg in 2012.

He made his debut for Wythenshawe in their last home-field match versus defending champions Collegiate Old Boys and netted all six scores in a 6-2 win - featuring a half-hour opening period hat-trick.

Wythenshawe's team for this season also features ex- professionals such as England and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey, Hull and Burnley midfielder George Boyd, Toffees forward Oumar Niasse, Wigan full-back Maynor Figueroa, Manchester City duo Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha and top-flight championship victors Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.

In total, the former Premier League players have won 15 big honors and moved for combined transfer sums of about £123 million.

Household Names and Global Stars

Ireland began playing for the team in preseason this season through close mate and present team teammate Blake Norton, and the ex- Irish midfielder then invited other former professionals, who all compete in a weekly nine-a-side game, to participate.

Former Senegal striker Oumar Niasse, who scored 12 scores in sixty-five top-flight games for Everton and still attends their matches at Goodison Park, also made his debut against Collegiate OB - who are located in the city and wear an Blue warm-up gear as their uniform.

"A mate Stephen said 'come and play, it's a laugh'," said the striker.

"Then he informed me we were playing a side from Liverpool and the shock I had when I saw them sporting Everton shirts - I say this is wrong for me!

"When you still enjoy the game and you feel you can still play, wherever you can play, what are you going to do?

"The spectators who come and watch are pleased and to make a day if they watch us competing there and to pose us queries - it's more like the pleasure of us getting somewhere we can play, with organisation of course."

Such is the bench strength at Wythenshawe, Niasse made his debut at defender.

"That's a bit different but then, I enjoy running and just move forward - I'm not defending that much," he added.

"I warn my defender 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue attacking.

"That movement is what I'm seeking. It's enjoyable."

'Surreal Experience

Along with Cisse's six scores on his first game, Stephen Ireland has scored 8 in 3 games for the side, while George Boyd hit five on his first match and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by trade, notched a triple in one game up front.

Wythenshawe are top of the Top Tier with 3 victories from three and a GD of +19.

Paul Barrow, thirty-eight, who features on the wing for the opposition, came up against ex- Latics full-back Figueroa on the weekend - and had to explain his young son who Emile Heskey was.

He has played at 2 global tournaments for his country, in as well as playing in over two hundred Premier League matches.

"It was spreading like wildfire they had all these ex-Premier League players," said Barrow.

"I felt I was a little awestruck playing against Figueroa to be honest.

"Also Emile [Heskey] got on and he's got over 60 England appearances.

"Our side held our own for a solid 20 mins but then we had a man dismissed and it was hard.

"We really have not stopped chatting about it - I was phoning my mother and brother on the journey home.

"They were all really nice, shaking our hands after the match - it was like facing a group of normal fellas.

"Now we are eager for the second match."
